Dermcare Giveaway!

In this day of age almost everything seems so fast-paced and instant. A decade ago, it was merely impossible to see the photos that you took at that exact moment. It will take you days to have the negatives of my photos developed and printed. Plus, doing your research at the library is another story!

With most things available in just one click, sometimes it is hard to keep up as you'll end up being burned out. For me, I really felt that I've neglected my body last year and I'm trying my best to make up for it this 2016. In order to keep our body strong and our spirits positive, we must reward ourselves once in a while with relaxation and soothing treatments.

Dermstrata Nutri-Sexy Launch + Giveaway!

There are two times in a year that you'll regret having a few rounds at the buffet table. For me it's summer and the xmas season. I don't think I have to explain how uncomfortable it is to wear a bikini with everything hanging out especially during summer. The xmas season on the other hand is another story. I don't know about you guys but for me, mine consists of school reunions and family reunions. Other than "Kamila, wala ka pa bang boyfriend? Seryoso??", it is also common to hear the dreaded "Tumaba ka ata"

Which is something really hard not to happen when your food looks like this!

Since it is the start of October, I might as well start my "project balik-alindog" a bit earlier. As much as I believe that women of any sizes are and can be beautiful, you do have to admit that too much of a good thing is bad. Being overweight can affect your physical and psychological well being as most studies would suggest. Did you know that the risk of death increases by 20 to 40 percent among overweight people and that being overweight increases your chances of cancer.

Even though I'm a bit underweight, I find it annoying to shop for new clothes since some of my old clothes don't fit me anymore. Must be from binge-eating habit when I get so depressed or stressed-out. So a few weeks ago, I went to Dermstrata's head office to try out their newly launched Nutri-Sexy slimming program. After trying out one session of their Thermacav and Thermasculpt, I AM REALLY CONVINCED THAT IT WORKS. With the results that we saw day.. Alice and I both agreed to go back and finish the whole program! No joke!

Before anything else, what is Nutri-Sexy? Nutri-Sexy is a slimming program that provides holistic approach in fat reduction as it incorporates three components to ensure quality results. The concept utilizes two cutting-edge equipment to scientifically drain down unwanted fats and includes a personalized dietary plan to further optimize the effects of treatments. The framework of Nutri-Sexy is designed to help slim down, monitor progress and guarantee desired results.

How does Nutri-Sexy work? An effective slimming program requires an in-depth knowledge on patient's health information. Our in-house nutritionist will get these information as a pre-requisite to the program and will be used to design a tailored fir program for the patient.

The Three Components:

Ultrasound gel for the Thermacav and Anti-aging Q10 cream for the Thermasculpt

Thermacav

The Thermacav penetrates deep fat cell membrane using low frequency ultrasound waves and efficiently breaks down fat. The funny thing about this is you could actually hear a slightly annoying ringing sound during the treatment but the other people around you won't.

Thermasculpt

The Thermasculpt uses a radio frequency technology that has powerful capability to agitate fats thereby tightening the skin for a more contoured shape. The machine used to administer this is a little bit hot but tolerable. Not to worry though because they have an emergency button if you find the heat intolerable.

Personalized Diet Plan

One of the things I learned during a talk from Senior Coach Jose Gemora at a BDJ Rendezvous last 2014 is that weight loss is 30 percent exercise and 70 percent diet. Regardless of how many push ups you did in a day, if you eat like there's not tomorrow.. my guess is you probably wouldn't lose much.

Needs differ from one to the other. Nutri-Sexy creates an optimized diet plan that best suits the patients to ensure reduction of stubborn fats. Needless to say, Nutri-Sexy considers the patient's health and wellness as a top priority.

What I find surprising is to see results this early since it is said that results become noticeable in a minimum of three sessions. Trying the Thermacav and Thermasculpt alone helped me lose one inch in each thigh. We even had a friend there that lost two inches on her tummy with Thermasculpt alone!

Interested in trying out the Nutri-Sexy Slimming Program? You're just in luck!
I will be giving away a Free 10-Minute Thermasculpt Treatment and a Diamond Peel and Iontophoresis Whitening Treatment to one lucky reader!

Giveaway Reminders:

1.) This giveaway is open to everyone residing in Metro Manila.
2.) This giveaway would last a duration of 2 weeks.
Starting this October 3 (Saturday) and it ends on October 17 (Saturday)
3.) Announcement of winners will be on October 19 (Monday)
4.) Winners will be chosen at random via Rafflecaptor.

I will be choosing another winner.

A Glass of the Sea at The Mind Museum + Giveaway!

One thing that I've learned during my Marine Science class is how abundant in resources and biologically megadiverse the Philippines is... and how some Filipinos take it for granted.

Being a country that is surrounded by large bodies of water, it is important to learn more about our Philippine Seas as our economy relies on it for our livelihood and tourism. I truly believe that everyone should know more about our Philippine Seas because understanding how to protect it would benefit us in the long run.

WHAT IS A GLASS OF THE SEA?

A Glass of the Sea is an immersive, interactive and constantly updated exhibition on the astounding discoveries being made by the California Academy of Sciences in the Verde Island Passage within the Coral Triangle. The exhibition is inspired by a study publish in 2014 in the PLOS One journal entitled Using Environmental DNA to Census Marine Fishes in a Large Mesocosm where a small sampling of ocean water could give data as to the biodiversity (specifically of fish) that inhabit an area. The exhibition is an entire narrative divided into 3 main stories: (i) The Story of the Sea, (ii) The Story of Science of the Sea and (iii) The Story of Your Role in the Sea. It also has a special education space where marine science and conservation science activities are facilitated.

Funded by the United States Agency for International Development, the exhibition is set to travel around the Philippines and be experienced by participants of all ages.

OBJECTIVE OF A GLASS OF THE SEA

The objective of the exhibition is to capture larger audiences toward the astounding beauty of marine life and the compelling importance of conservation of the Coral Triangle. Using creative, interactive multi-media technology where guests' gestures could summon graphics and impactful text, A Glass of the Sea would be able to palpably connect the science being done with the public understanding of such work.

EXHIBITS

The Story of Your Role in the Sea

Here are three intriguing sculptures that would make us really think of our relationship with the Coral Triangle. They are sculptures made from trash that usually ends up in the ocean. But here, they have been creatively put together in ways that cast impactful shadows. The sculptures are silent, but hopefully they will make you not just think but feel that the choices we make affects our seas.

The Story of the Science of the Sea

A “library” of different marine creatures. Participants are invited to pull out wooden panels etched with a creature and place them on a counter with an NFC (near field communication)-reader. The creature will “come alive” on screen whether as a still photo or video.  This exhibit showcases the variety of organisms (both NEW and old) found in the Verde Island Passage and here, you can make an up close and personal encounter with each of the organisms in this “library.”

The Story of The Sea

A panoramic video showing raw footages of the CAS expedition in Verde Island Passage. All featured footage are clips from the actual expedition. Participants can take their time and immerse themselves in this space and feel the work being done underwater.

EDUCATION

Ocean in Motion is the educational space of A Glass of the Sea where guests can continue their journey through the exhibition by participating in different hands-on activities. These activities are designed to be conducted simultaneously to allow for the free-flow entry of participants. The general objective of the space is to deepen the understanding of the exhibition’s core principles (species diversity, discovery and exploration, and conservation) through interactive workshops, game and science shows.

Different educational activities for all ages. From L-R: Habitat Hotspots, Make your own Sea Creature, Original Video Games and Science Shows

Original Video Games

There are many issues plaguing our seas. These three (3) original video games demonstrate different problems that our ocean faces and how you can play your part in protecting our ocean.

  • Net Escape: push away the creatures from getting snagged as bycatch!
  • Garbage Catch: catch the garbage in time for the trash not to harm the creatures
  • Sustainable Seafood Market: test your food choices by distinguishing “planet-friendly” or sustainable fishes in the market from non-sustainable ones.
At the end of each game, participants are asked to make a pledge requiring a bodily pose that the computer will recognize, to help protect the ocean.

Make your own Sea Creature

Guests of all ages will be able to imagine, color and create their own fish and nudibranchs. Participants will be able to name their creature and take a photo with it.

Habitat Hotspot

Inspired by the game Battleship, players will set-up their ecosystems or “biodiversity hot spots” and aim to set-up conservation areas.

Science Shows

Participants will be able to test what they know about the sea through this quiz show.
Distinguish misconceptions from facts about the ocean

An interactive lecture and game, Fighting for Fish demonstrates how personal choices can affect the management of resources.

Guest-learners will assume roles of fishes and fisherman in this stop-dance game. When the music plays, the group acting as fishes will need to gather a specific number of food from marine protected areas (MPA); when the music stop, the group acting as fishermen will be able to catch the fish outside an MPA.

The journey never ends. The Mind Museum constantly evolves by coming up with new ways on how to present science.  This year, patrons can expect more awesome exhibits, educational programs, shows and activities presented in a whole new level.

The Mind Museum will also be bringing A Glass of the Sea to other parts of the country in the next two years which means you have to visit soon as it would be available here for a limited time only.

Located in Bonifacio Global City, The Mind Museum is a non-stock, non-profit science museum of the Bonifacio Art Foundation. The institution opened in 2012 and won the international THEA award in 2014 for its thematic threads, design and execution.

There are also the staple features such as monthly science parties called “MindBursts”, and free science conversations with rock star scientists from here and all over in “Cafe Scientifique”.

One thing’s for sure. There’s always something new and exciting waiting around the corner at The Mind Museum.

As a special treat to all of my readers, I'd like to share the opportunity to experience this wonderful exhibit.
I am giving away All-Day Passes to The Mind Museum (valued at P750 each) to two lucky winners! The giveaway will start today and will be open to my readers in Metro Manila. How to join? Just follow the steps on Rafflecopter to get a chance to win. Remember, the more entries means the bigger chance to win!

Residence Inn Tagaytay + Giveaway!

Have you ever been to a zoo that let's you get THIS close to their animals?

Growing up, I love watching Animal Planet and reading encyclopedias about different animals.
Call me a nerd or whatever you like but there's always a random trivia out there about animals that I would always find fascinating. Believe it or not, I could recall vague memories of me trying to memorize scientific names of them. Ugh.
No wonder I don't have a lot friends. Just kidding!

Fast forward to 2015: I still love animals and I am still a nerd..
However, I forgot every scientific name I ever tried to memorize. Lol

Last weekend I finally went to Tagaytay and visited Paradizoo and Residence Inn.
Residence Inn is one of Zoomanity Group's themeparks famous for its Mini Zoo and excellent location overlooking Taal Lake. If you are on a budget and you're looking for a place away from the noisy city, this is the perfect place to go!

Entrance Fee Rates:
Adult --- P249
Kid (3 ft to 4 ft) --- P199
Kid (Below 3 ft) --- Free
Senior Citizen --- 20% Discount

Complete with maps and signs so you wouldn't get lost as the place is huge and open for future expansions.

Here's just a glimpse of some of the marvelous creatures that you could encounter inside Residence Inn!
I didn't include everything here as it would take you forever to load this page.

FISHES

From L-R: White Tilapia, Flowerhorn, White Catfish and Shubunkin inside the Serpentarium Aquarium

Either this Pacu is really huge or I just have puny hands! Here's my hand for scale!

AMPHIBIANS

I really think this Asian Box Turtle right here is fully aware that I was stalking him.
He was following me the whole time I was taking his picture. Very cute!

REPTILES

Here's a not so sexy photo of me with an Albino Burmese Python taken at the Animal Encounter.
Don't be deceived on how I make it seem easy to pose with this surprisingly heavy guy!

From L-R: Bearded Dragon, Burmese Python, Albino Burmese Python and Blue Tongue Skink inside the Serpentarium Aquarium

There were also some well camouflaged Caiman Crocodiles in the Zoo Grounds.

The extreme close up shot I posted above was the scales of this relaxed Iguana.
Either he's just sleepy or doesn't seem to mind that I was there. I'm guessing both.

ARTHROPODS

***Note: Readers with Arachnophobia might want to look away***

Most of the arthropods you'll get to see there are spiders. Mexican Fireleg, Mexican Red Rump, Chilean Rose Tarantula, Chaco Golden Knee, Mexican Red Knee, Brazilian Black and White Tarantula and Mexican Pink are to name a few.

From L-R: Brown Tarantula (??), Mexican Fireleg, Chaco Golden Knee and Mexican Pink

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. These are wingless cockroaches that you usually see being eaten at Fear Factor. I got to hold one of these during the HCP Annual Pet Fair with Rattus and apparently they aren't as repulsive as your typical American or German Cockroaches. Still wouldn't eat them though.

BIRDS

The Umbrella Cockatoo was one of my favorite creatures there. The cockatoo was very wise as this one was plotting its escape plan during the photo-ops! As for the owl below, I couldn't recall if this intimidating fellow is a Philippine Eagle Owl though.

It was my first time to see a Cassowary in person! They are as beautiful as I could imagine from the books!

MAMMALS

Chelle, Axel and I also got to pet and feed a young Bengal Tiger at the Animal Encounter.
This is optional but they will charge an additional P50 for a photo with the Tiger.

From L-R: Arabian Camel, Long Tailed Macaque and African Female Lion (Lioness)

The African Lioness was adorable! I wish I caught her rolling around on video!

This is also optional but you could take a ride on their ponies inside the zoo grounds for a minimum fee.

These fluffy rabbits were also for sale. The juvenile costs P300 per pair while the breeder costs P1,600 per pair.

Surrounding us was this breathtaking view overlooking Taal Lake.
I have yet to stitch and upload a better panoramic shot of this.

What perfect way to savor the view? A zipline ride with your significant other or a cable car ride with the family! I tried both, the cable car was okay. The zipline on the other hand kept my heart pounding!
And to think I don't have any fear of heights!

In front of Residence Inn you will see a small playground and biking area situated in the center of a round green field. Perfect for the little kids!

If you're just like me, someone who wants a fun learning experience and a quick escape from the city.. you'll surely enjoy your visit in Residence Inn Tagaytay!

Want to try out Zoomanity's other theme parks? Guess what? I'll be giving away tickets to the most anticipated annual festivities in the field of agriculture as Paradizoo re-unfold "Power of Three"!
This is perfect if you don't have anything planned for Valentines Day yet!

For those who can't join my giveaway, you could always visit their website at www.zoomanity.com for details of get in touch by calling them at 899-98-28 or 08.
