Collectors unite for the biggest gathering of all kinds in the country! Mark your calendars and get ready for the 1st National Swap Meet: For Collectors, By Collectors that will be happening on August 25-27, 2017 at Function Halls 1-3, SMX Aura, City of Taguig.

The event will be showcasing a vast display of various collectibles like toys, action figures, antiques, vintage items, books, prints, and unique curiosities await serious collectors and hobbyists for purchase, swap or auction. Other than that, an exciting program of activities provides entertainment, fun and games, while various talks and workshops provide gainful information and new ideas in the world of collecting as a hobby. Because of these, the venue becomes an ideal rendezvous for collectors meeting other collectors of similar interests.

The best part? The Philippine Toy Groups Association will donate toys for the children of Marawi though their initiative the "Toys For Marawi." The 1st National Swap Meet exercises social responsibility through this activity by aiming to address the pressing need for mental stimulation and psychological healing for the children traumatized by the ongoing conflict in Marawi.

The Philippine Star reports that according to Vice Gov. Haroun Al-Rashid Lucman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), trauma therapists have recommended the distribution of toys to children now in cramped conditions at evacuation centers. “There are non-government organizations and peace-advocacy groups that can help us out on this. Any help shall be highly appreciated,” said Lucman, who is also a Maranao and ARMM’s social welfare secretary.

“We are knocking on the hearts of parents and children in peaceful regions to donate used toys, but not toy guns or anything of the sort,” added ARMM health secretary Kadil Sinolinding Jr.

Toys For Marawi donation boxes will be placed around the event area so that visitors get the opportunity to bring toys they once loved and give it new life by sharing to others. The event organizers urge everyone to help and support this cause, as even the smallest act of charity creates a ripple that impacts the greater good.

The 1st National Swap Meet is produced and organized by ArtisteSpace in collaboration with Philippine Toy Groups Association and the invaluable support of its partners – The Dark Knight PH, Toy Collector’s Lounge, SHFiguarts Philippines, Southside Transformers, Robot Pilipinas, The Mighty CollecTHORS PH, Red Toys, P.D.O.S., Digimon PH Collectors Club, TS 118, PH Star Wars Empire, Playmobil Collectors Philippines, Southern Dollies, Doll Collectors Swap & Sell, Dollvisoria, Barbie Filipino Friends, From Famous to Forgotten Super Robot, Vintage Voltes V DX Collection, Monogatari Series Philippines, MUSICars, PinoyLUG, Toy Collectors of Cavite United, Macross PH, KeithG Bricks, Voltes V Int’l Fan Page, SICness PH, DC Collectors Philippines, Pinoy Batman Kolektors, Gunpla Chuva, POSK & Juansix+ Let’s Volt In Group, DCPH, Comic Artists, Robot Collectors Haven, 3A Manila, Pinoy MInimates and sponsors – GSM, San Jose Builders, Taters and Chimara.

Sakroots X BDJ Passion Series: Dream To Live

It's been a while since I've last attended a BDJ event. So far this is the only one I attended this year other than the BDJ Women's Summit. When I first saw this event poster online, I didn't hesitate to sign up since I always wanted to learn how to make my own dreamcatcher. I wanted one of my own when I was a kid, but I could never find any at the malls before. Buying a dreamcatcher is easy. Learning to make one yourself? Priceless!

Fortunately, I was one of the lucky (15) fifteen Bellas to score an invite at the Sakroots X BDJ Passion Series: Dream To Live. The event was held last August 12 in The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on 3/F, Garden Wing Area at Trinoma. The event was split into two, the first part was an inspiring talk about being ready and inspired to dream while the second part was a hands-on workshop on how to create your own dreamcatchers.

Passion Talks with Shai Lagarde

Writer, Media Producer, Youth Counselor and Style Blogger - Shai Lagarde tells us how she transformed herself from a simple province girl with huge dreams to an award winning goal-getter.

What I truly admire from her talk is how dedicated and disciplined she is in managing her time to get things done. She honest in telling us how dreams would only work if you do. For example: By "mapping" your dreams early, you won't get easily lost when you're working on it. I love the fruitful talk and I hope that I could absorb all the tips that we've learned from her.

Dreamcatcher Weaving Workshop with Alecka Eclarino

Owner of Crafterina Handmade - Alecka Eclarino spills all her trade secrets on how to weave your own dreamcatcher. The first part of the workshop was an introduction on how dreamcatchers came about. It is said that the legend of the dreamcatcher originated from the Ojibwa Tribe (Chippewa) where they believed that night is full of both good and bad dreams. When a dreamcatcher is hanged above the place where you sleep, it moves freely in the night air and catches the dreams as they drift by. The good dreams, knowing their way, pass through the opening in the center of the webbing. While the bad dreams, not knowing the way, are caught in the webbing and destroyed at the first light.

From there, we started weaving our own dreamcatchers using the supplied materials. I love how Ms. Alecka is very engaging with all her students. I swear, she assists everyone so that we could all finish our artworks together.

At first, I REALLY had a hard time doing mine because I tend to get stressed-out if my crafts aren't that "perfect". Maybe it's my perfectionist-artist-afraid-of-creating-disappointing-artworks that's annoying me but I've came to accept from Ms. Alecka that some of the imperfections do make an interesting impact on the dreamcatchers itself. That's what makes our creations unique, there's no wrong or right way of doing it... but of course you still need to get the structure right. Again, It's a bit tricky at first but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Throughout the workshop, they were judging the best dreamcatcher (in terms of aesthetics / skill / speed) from the bunch. Here's the winning creation:

The talks didn't just leave us food for thought, we were also full from the delicious sandwiches and indulgent drinks from CBTL. The servings were so big that we had to share them, some even had theirs for take out!

All in all, it was a well-spent afternoon and I enjoyed every part of it. There was never a dull moment and I wish the workshop time was longer. Nevertheless, we got to take home a Sakroots bag with goodies like a Crafterina Handmade Kit so that we could make ours at home instead. Can't wait to start on a bigger one! Will let you ladies know how it turns out when it's done! To the dreamers out there, cheers!

Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon Opens at Unimart Greenhills + 5 Reasons Why You Should Go Organic

Hey ladies! Are you one of those girls whose motto is "Kilay Is Life?" If you are, I feel you... Most of my friends would spill how they could NEVER leave the house without their brows on fleek! That of which I totally understand because your brows could definitely make or break your FOTD. Don't believe me? Here are some pictures to support this claim:
And who could ever forget that article from Cosmopolitan Philippines on how our local celebrities would look like if they had 90s eyebrows on?

Being a woman is hard. We have to deal with society's unrealistic expectations especially when it comes to beauty. Seriously, women aren't supposed to be born hairless!

The desire to be hairless paves the way for different kinds of hair removal. What people don't know is hair removal isn't just all about the hair, but you also have to take into account your skin as well. For example, people with sensitive skin are strongly advised not to use depilatory creams.

Nailaholics Opens at Unimart Greenhills + Tips To Make Your Manicure & Pedicure Last Longer

I don't know about you girls but whenever I see a set of hands with a great manicure, the first thing that comes to mind is "I bet this girl has the luxury of time AND money!" Time because whether if it's done in a salon or DIY, not everyone can drop what they're doing to have their digits painted on. Money because a good manicure doesn't come cheap. As the phrase goes, "time is money". For me, having control of both leaves a good impression. Now that's letting your hands do the talking!

So earlier, my boyfriend's cousin Jam just got a mani-pedi amidst the upcoming storm. Worried that her foot got wet from the rain because of the possible germs that could get infected with. I told her, "What else should you get worried about other than leptospirosis?". Then she proceeds to tell me that you could get ingrown nails. Or worse -- hepatitis or HIV if the tools their used aren't properly cleaned and sanitized. Crazy right? That's why I don't like anyone touching my nails for that matter.

I'm very particular with my nails, I don't like my cuticles getting bled or merthiolate staining my tips. Seriously, I'd rather do my own nails than risk getting a botched mani from an unknown place.

Ooh La Lash Opens At Unimart Greenhills + Helpful Trivias About Eyelash Extensions!

I'm not born with dark double lashes like Elizabeth Taylor. When I was young, they've even resorted to trimming these short fringes in hopes of having it grow longer and thicker. You name it, volumizing mascaras, curling mascaras, lengthening mascaras, waterproof /water-based mascaras and even 3d fiber lash mascaras I have already experimented with just to achieve that. On some special occasions I'd even go all out and adorn my peepers with a set of falsies. I usually wear false lashes with invisible clear bands so it wouldn't look as fake and feel heavy.

Along with other beauty bloggers, I got invited to the Grand Opening of Ooh La Lash, Hey Sugar and Nailaholics at their newest branch in Unimart, Greenhills (Mezzanine Level) last Friday. Nothing prepared me for what was going to happen! I know I wasn't blessed with beautiful, long thick lashes AND I wasn't sure if I was ready for such a commitment but.. I GOT MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Art Enthusiasts Rejoice As The Craft Central Opens In The North!

When I was a little kid, I would sneak through my dad's office supplies (to get clean bond papers) so that I can create my own "comic books" since I'm often stuck with scratch papers for my hobby. Scratch papers aren't really my thing. But that's already a thing of the past! Now, the only dilemma I have to encounter is "what specific material should I get for my artwork?" Right?

Here's an exciting news for all the Northern creatives in the art community. The Craft Central, home to over 110 talented artists, crafters and art brands opens its 2nd store in The Block, SM North EDSA! And it's even bigger and brighter than its pioneer store in Greenbelt 5!

What first started off as a little online shop in 2014, expanded into retail store as it opened its first branch at Greenbelt last year. That has also won the Most Promising Retailer Award for Greenbelt. Today, The Craft Central is marking another milestone by opening in one of the biggest mall in the Metro, SM North EDSA.

Contact Lens Review: Lenspop Bunny 3 Color Green

Of all the contact lenses I've worn, one of the most loved pair would be the GEO Tri-color Green (CM-903). Not only does my friends really love them on me but I've also worn them to death as well! Now here's a random discovery that will make some of my readers happy...

I found a similar looking pair at Klenspop! Introducing its more "demure" twin, the Lenspop Bunny 3 Color Green. If the name sounds familiar, I have reviewed the Gray version of this previously here.

I also have my hands on the Blue version of this, so you better watch out for that review as well!

Head of the Family: Not Just A Provider, But A Father

Imagine working in a world where time seems to just past by and where almost everything changes instantly. Think of having to keep up with an environment where it costs a lot to stop or even slow down for a while. Sound taxing, right? What more of prioritizing the welfare of everybody in the household on top of it all.

But every head of the family doesn’t mind about it. Fathers are said to be the pillars of our homes. They toil sun up to sun down to give our needs and desires.

Some of them go abroad with tears in their eyes because they will be physically separated from their families. However, there is a certain joy in their hearts knowing that they will be able to provide for their loved ones back home.

To honor these gallant paternal men and let them feel how extraordinary they are and important their sacrifices are for their families, Father’s Day has been a yearly universal event. As we mark again this special occasion on Sunday, June 18, 2017, our applause and recognition will never be enough to show them how grateful we are to have them in our lives.

Our dads, together with our moms, take good care of us the moment we’re born. They are the ones who provide everything we need for our everyday lives. From infancy up to adulthood, they feed and clothe us.

As we take our initial baby steps, our patriarchs guide and lead us in the right direction. When we stumble and fall, they assist us to rise and move on. In times of danger or any threat, they shield us from any harm.

All of these, they do out of unconditional love. Their selflessness, though, has its own toll. Working tirelessly could lead to high levels of stress constantly and problems not only mentally, but physically, too. So better watch out for the signs.

Has tatay been constantly complaining about losing strands and strands of his hair every day? Or maybe has he been searching for a way on how to get them to grow back?

According to the hair loss statistics conducted by Statistic Brain in the year 2016, 40 percent of men experience noticeable mane vanishing as early as age 35. And as per the American Hair Loss Association, there are a couple of different factors that cause excessive hair fall, one being extreme degree of stress.

Nutramedica Inc. introduced a revolutionary product that aims to address this problem: NOVUHAIR, nature’s answer to hair loss. Being the only topical scalp lotion in the country that is made from 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients all working synergistically, it’s perfect for all the heads of the family out there, be they biological or not.

NOVUHAIR is proven effective and safe to help prevent and stop the progression of hair loss and, at the same time, help promote locks’ growth. Simply spray a liberal amount of NOVUHAIR topical scalp lotion onto the scalp and massage for 5-10 minutes. Voila, it penetrates deeply into the roots, which helps rejuvenate, nourish and maintain the natural moisture of the hair.

Still have no idea on what to give him on his big day? Well, NOVUHAIR might not be the most expensive gift to impress him, but the most valuable present he could ever have. This nature’s answer to hair loss provides him the chance to be ahead already in preventing his “crowning glory” from receding in the near future.

So, head on to all leading stores nationwide and get a dose of this breakthrough product. NOVUHAIR is also available in shampoo and conditioner formats to further complement the benefits of NOVUHAIR topical scalp lotion. Beyond Innovations Warehouse Sale: Discounts Up To 70% Off

As a creative, my work requires me to be inspired regardless if I'm into the project I'm dealing with or not. Creative blocks sucks. How do I stay motivated? For me, I'm more productive when I'm listening to my favorite set of songs on Spotify or listen to the radio.

Whether you prefer working out to pop music or singing your hearts out to classical music in the shower. Music is an essential part of life.

One of my pet peeves = low quality earphones. I'd hate to admit it but the "thrifty" side of me would prefer buying an affordable set of entry-level earphones every year as opposed to splurging on an expensive high quality one that would probably last way way longer. Not a practical choice, but what's a cheapskate like me to do?

Now here's a great news for all you audiophiles out there. Beyond Innovations will be having its Warehouse sale featuring brands such as JBL, Harman Kardon, AKG and Booq among others.
Take note: the sale will feature discounts of up to 70% off!

Want dibs on the best pieces? Get your wallets ready as The Warehouse Sale will be happening on July 1-2, 2017 at the Circulo Verde Multi Purpose Hall, Bagumbayan, Quezon City. Scheduled time will be 11 am to 6 pm for Saturday and 9 am to 6 pm for Sunday.

Sounds good, right? Hope to see you there!!!

Hair Diaries: Summer Hair Care Tips by Novuhair

It is totally undeniable that going to the beach and mountain climbing are some of the popular activities for most people's itinerary specially this summer. It can't be helped, since the Philippines has a lot of beautiful tourist destinations to offer.

As much as we'd like to enjoy or try everything under the sun... did you know that spending extended hours exposed to the sun can pose serious danger to your hair and scalp? Yes, the same UV rays that brings damage to your skin without proper protection can equally hurt your hair and scalp.

2 months ago, I had my hair bleached twice in one sitting to achieve a color level 10. On top of that, a month after that, I had it dyed grey. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. But just as I've expected, bleached hair takes a lot of work to maintain.

Trust me, the texture of your hair will never be as the same as it is. It's more prone to breakage and damage, that's why I made my sweet time to do a bit of research on how to manage treated hair properly.

FEATURED AT MADRID FUSION 2017: SUMAN NG CLARIN

April 6-8, 2017 was a busy day for all foodies and food entrepreneur as Madrid Fusion 2017 took place at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.  The whole place was like a hive, buzzing with activities and people.

Part of the Region 10 contingent was the product from Clarin, Misamis Occidental – the various sticky rice cakes or suman ng Clarin.  Nearly all 17 flavors were displayed for tasting and sold in the 3-day event.  ASEC Fredrick Alegre, along with some visitors, was wowed with the number of flavors that Clarin was able to showcase during Madrid Fusion, knowing that this is the first time that the said municipality has joined in this kind of event.  The flavors of Clarin’s suman were as follows:

Mango – sticky rice with ripe mango slices, cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Pinya – sticky rice with ripe pineapple slices, cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Durian – sticky rice with durian slivers, cooked in coconut milk and sugar.  The durian’s strong scent is not present, making this a delightful way of enjoying the fruit.
Tsokalate – sticky rice with tablea made into a spread, cooked with coconut milk and sugar; making this rich in local flavors.
Tsokolate with Mani – similar to tsokolate with added with peanut flavor coming from processed peanut spread.  Also cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Moron – a classic suman in the Visayan region.
Balintawak – created in honor of a place where it was made, this sticky rice goodness is with coconut meat made sweet by cooked coconut milk/oil (latik).
Classic – this is your standard sticky rice, wrapped in leaves and cooked using coconut milk and sugar.
Carrot – with shredded carrots made into a slightly sweet paste, this is mixed into the sticky rice and then wrapped in leaves before being cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Ube – another root crop common in the area, the purple yam is made into a semi-sweet paste that is mixed with the sticky rice before being wrapped in leaves.  Cooked with coconut milk and sugar.
Keso/Queso – slices of cheese are added into the sticky rice mix and then cooked with coconut milk and sugar.  The cheese melts into the sticky rice making it more creamier in each bite.
Choco Moron – the classic suman of the Visayas region with chocolate jame added into it.  Cooked in coconut milk and sugar mixture.
Buko –  sticky rice with strings of young coconut meat added into the mixture.  It is also cooked with coconut milk and sugar, making it slightly sweet and delicate.
Peanut – this is your locally processed peanuts, finely grounded and made into a near paste in texture then added into the sticky rice mixture before being wrapped in fresh banana leaves.  Cooked with coconut milk and sugar, this suman creation is both delicate and with a crunch.
Latik -  the sweetened form of the coconut milk, cooked till dark in color and then added into the sticky rice mixture before being cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Adlai – two types of rice mixture was used in this suman.  One is your standard sticky rice and another is one that is high in fiber.  This suman creation can be considered  healthy because of the high fiber content that helps in the digestion of food.
Langka/Nangka – slivers of ripe langka (visayan: nangka), is place into the sticky rice and then wrapped in fresh banana leaves before being cook in their standard coconut milk-sugar mixture.

People can’t have enough of this sticky rice mixture that some even came back to buy more of it.  They can’t believe that you can have that many variations of sticky rice creations and still be delicious and true to the nature of suman.   Such were the feedback given especially during the 3rd-day Regional Lunch, which was attended by all the delegates present in the event.

As of the moment, this sticky rice cake creation can be bought in the House of Suman in Clarin, Misamis Occidental.  For further inquiries regarding the product, you can reach the PR/Social Media team of TBDC thru 09778400606 (Kezia Noblia – Account Director).
